Apple Valley, CA Parking Rules: Oversized Vehicle Parking (2026)

The Town of Apple Valley does not use a single 'oversized vehicle' ordinance; large vehicles fall under two regimes depending on use. Trucks, semis and other heavy commercial vehicles exceeding a 26,001-pound GVWR are regulated by Chapter 12.38, which prohibits them in the right-of-way, in front of homes, and in residential districts except on 2.5-acre-plus R-A/R-LD/R-VLD lots with a permit (sections 12.38.010, 12.38.020). Section 12.38.010(b) expressly carves out personal-use recreational vehicles, so a large motorhome is not an 'oversized commercial vehicle' under this chapter. Heavy trucks are also restricted to designated routes under Chapter 12.36 (Truck Routes), which prohibits trucks on restricted streets and establishes through and local truck routes. For personal oversized vehicles — big RVs, trailers, boats — the operative limits are the surface and right-of-way standards in section 6.30.030 (park on driveway/concrete/asphalt/gravel, no right-of-way encroachment) and the storage-shelter and setback rules in sections 9.29.022 and 9.29.025. On public streets, the San Bernardino County Sheriff enforces California Vehicle Code length, width and parking provisions.
