In unincorporated Orange County, any commercial vehicle over 25 feet long, 8 feet high, or 90 inches wide is barred from residential property under Codified Ordinance Sec. 3-13-4(15). On public streets, CVC 22507 lets the county restrict parking of vehicles six feet or more in height within 100 feet of an intersection, once signs are posted.
For private residential property, the County of Orange Codified Ordinance Sec. 3-13-4(15) sets the size threshold for oversized/commercial vehicles: it is unlawful to keep in any residential zone or on residentially-developed property any commercial vehicle over 25 feet in length, over 8 feet in height, or over 90 inches in width, along with named heavy vehicles such as buses, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, tractors, tractor-trailers, and truck trailers. Table 3-13-6(c) of Sec. 3-13-6 likewise excludes those oversized commercial vehicles from the residential vehicle-storage allowances. Recreational vehicles (motorhomes, large trailers, boats) are handled separately under Sec. 3-13-6/Table 3-13-6(c) and may be stored on a paved driveway or screened paved area, but not on unpaved ground. On public streets, the California Vehicle Code controls: CVC 22507 authorizes local authorities to prohibit or restrict, by ordinance, the parking of vehicles - including vehicles six feet or more in height within 100 feet of an intersection - on designated streets, but the restriction does not take effect until signs or markings giving adequate notice have been posted. Drivers of oversized vehicles in unincorporated communities should check for posted street signage and keep large commercial vehicles off residential lots.
Keeping an oversized commercial vehicle on residential property in violation of Sec. 3-13-4(15) is enforced by OC Neighborhood Preservation under Sec. 1-1-34 / Sec. 1-1-39. On public streets, parking a tall or oversized vehicle in violation of a posted CVC 22507 restriction is a citable Vehicle Code infraction enforced by the OC Sheriff.
