This tracks federal law: the Federal Aviation Act and FAA regulations occupy the field of aircraft noise-source design and operation, including helicopters in flight, leaving cities without the power to set their own decibel limits or curfews for aircraft overhead the way Section 6-8-204's exterior noise table does for ground-based land uses.

Irvine's other exemptions in the same subsection cover school bands and athletic events on school property, activities on public parks and playgrounds, and emergency, pest-control, or crop-protection equipment during adverse weather. A resident who calls Code Enforcement about helicopter noise from John Wayne Airport traffic, medevac flights, or news choppers will not get relief under Chapter 8, because the chapter itself carves that noise source out; a complaint about aircraft noise instead routes to the FAA or, for airport-specific concerns, to the applicable airport authority rather than the City of Irvine's Chief Building Official.
