Milpitas limits oversized and tall vehicles by sign-posting. Vehicles six feet or taller may not park within 100 feet of an intersection or on posted streets. Vehicles over 20 feet are barred from City-owned lots, and gross-weight limits of three and four tons govern certain truck routes and streets.
Milpitas controls oversized vehicle parking through height and weight provisions in Title V, Chapter 100. Section V-100-12.15, adopted under California Vehicle Code Section 22507, prohibits stopping, standing, or parking any vehicle six feet or more in height (including any load) within 100 feet of any intersection, and on certain posted streets or highways during all hours of the day. This is the city's primary tool against large RVs, box trucks, and similarly tall vehicles obstructing sightlines. On City-owned parking lots, Section V-100-10.15-3 bars parking or standing any vehicle exceeding 20 feet in length, except for loading or unloading as permitted by Section V-100-11.03. For weight, Section V-100-12.05 designates truck routes for vehicles over a three-ton gross weight limit, and Section V-100-12.07 lets the City prohibit vehicles exceeding a four-ton gross weight limit on posted streets, subject to delivery and construction exceptions. Critically, Section V-100-12.07-5 exempts non-commercial recreational vehicles and boat or utility trailers from the weight-limit ban when entering by direct route to park, load, or unload. All vehicles, regardless of size, remain subject to the 72-hour street limit in Section V-100-10.03. Always check posted signs for height, length, or weight restrictions before parking a large vehicle.
Civil parking penalty for parking a vehicle 6 ft or taller within 100 ft of an intersection or on signed streets (V-100-12.15), or a vehicle over 20 ft on a City lot (V-100-10.15-3); removal under Section V-100-12.09.
