Redmond allows residential garage sales without a permit, limited to 2 sales per year and 3 days each under RMC 21.08. Items and signs must be removed within 48 hours. Sales may not obstruct sidewalks.
Residential garage, yard, moving, and estate sales are permitted as a customary accessory use in all residential zones in Redmond without requiring a business license or permit, provided they comply with RMC 21.08 and RMC 6.26 property maintenance standards. Each household may hold up to two sales per calendar year, each not exceeding three consecutive days. Hours of operation must fall between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Sale items must be displayed on private property: front yards, driveways, garages, carports, or behind screening. Items may not be placed in the public right-of-way, on sidewalks, or in the street. All sale merchandise, tables, and display fixtures must be removed and the property returned to normal residential appearance within 48 hours of the sale ending. Unsold items cannot be left curbside for extended periods as bulk waste. Garage sale signs posted on private property are allowed during the sale only (see garage sale signs subcategory). Sales conducted more frequently than the two-per-year limit may be deemed commercial activity requiring a home occupation permit under RMC 21.08.050.
Civil penalty up to $100 under RMC 1.14 for exceeding sale limits. Items left out beyond 48 hours are nuisance debris subject to removal fees.
