Shreveport's Unified Development Code allows one extra on-site temporary sign for a garage or yard sale, posted 48 hours before and removed within 24 hours after. Leftover goods left outdoors become a Chapter 38 nuisance.
The sale sign is capped at six square feet, five feet tall if freestanding, cannot be illuminated, and is limited to one per lot; a wall sign may be mounted on a fence. Temporary signs cannot be erected within the city's public right-of-way, which rules out corner and utility-pole directional signs. After the sale, unsold merchandise cannot sit outside: Sec. 38-43 declares storage of personalty outside an enclosed structure a nuisance, and Sec. 38-4 lists scattered furniture, appliances, boxes and containers among nuisance conditions the property standards director may cite.
Property standards issues a notice of violation or citation. Debris and storage cases reach environmental court, where a first nuisance offense not otherwise listed is set at $75.00 or less.
