Shreveport has no wildfire hazard severity zones, no wildland-urban interface code and no defensible-space program. Louisiana does not map fire severity the way western states do, and neither the Municipal Code nor the Unified Development Code creates such a zone.
What governs instead is a stack of general rules. Chapter 30, Article III adopts the National Fire Protection Association's Fire Prevention Code by reference, and the fire chief inspects premises for conditions liable to cause fire. Section 30-60 makes outside burning unlawful without a special permit from the bureau of fire prevention, issued only after inspection confirms the fire will be constantly attended and the location creates no fire hazard. Section 38-61 forces vegetation clearance. Above the city, the State Fire Marshal issues burn bans under La. R.S. 40:1602, and the Department of Agriculture and Forestry's Office of Forestry fights wildfires.
Burning without the bureau's permit, or at a location not on the permit, is unlawful under Section 30-60 and punishable under Section 1-14.
