Metro Public Works requires Urban Services District carts set out no earlier than 6pm day before collection, retrieved by end of collection day. Bins stored out of public right-of-way sight between pickups per Metro Β§10.20.
Metro Nashville Public Works operates weekly trash and biweekly recycling collection in the Urban Services District (USD). Residents must use Metro-issued 96-gallon carts. Metro Code Β§10.20.070 requires carts be placed at the curb no earlier than 6 PM the evening before scheduled collection and removed from the right-of-way by 6 PM on collection day. Between collections, carts must be stored on private property out of view from the public street β typically beside or behind the dwelling, behind a fence or screen, or in the garage. Overflowing carts, lids unable to close, or extra bags set out without bulky-item scheduling are violations. Commercial properties must use private haulers with fully screened dumpster enclosures per Metro Β§17.16.090. The General Services District (GSD) outside USD uses private subscription haulers with similar cart storage expectations.
First offense: warning from Public Works / Codes. Second offense: $50 civil penalty. Repeated violations: escalating fines and possible cart removal. Commercial screening violations: up to $500.
