Gardena residents use carts provided by the exclusive franchise hauler, WM (effective May 1, 2026). Carts must be kept from overflowing so lids close tightly, stored out of public view between collections, and not allowed to create a nuisance under the City's property maintenance rules.
Solid waste collection is regulated by Gardena Municipal Code Chapter 8.20 and provided by the City's exclusive franchise hauler. Effective May 1, 2026, WM (Waste Management) replaced Waste Resources as the citywide hauler. Residential service uses a gray 64-gallon trash cart (96-gallon available for an added fee) plus recycling and organics carts. Carts must not be overfilled: the lid must close tightly. Containers left in public view, overflowing, or accumulating debris can be cited as a public nuisance under GMC Chapter 8.64. Direct cart requests, damage, or exchange questions to WM at (310) 366-7600. Store carts out of street view except on collection day.
Overfilled carts may be skipped; containers left in view or overflowing can be cited as a nuisance under GMC 8.64.
