Gardena, CA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Gardena Municipal Code § 10.28.180 lets the city's traffic authority place curb paint in five colors, and once the paint or a matching sign is down, ignoring it violates subsection F directly. Red curb means no stopping, standing or parking at any time, with the sole exception of a bus using a marked bus zone. Yellow curb restricts stopping to loading and unloading only, and only between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on days other than Sundays and holidays: passengers get three minutes, freight or materials get twenty, per the companion time limits set in § 10.28.190.

White curb is reserved for passenger loading (again capped at three minutes) or dropping mail at an adjacent box, with the same 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. window unless the curb fronts a hotel or an open theater, where the restriction runs around the clock. Green curb allows parking but caps it at twenty minutes within that same daytime window. Blue curb is reserved for vehicles displaying a valid disabled placard or plate issued under Vehicle Code §§ 22511.5 or 9105; any other driver who parks there is in violation regardless of duration.

Because § 10.28.180 sets no penalty of its own, a citation defaults to the citywide schedule in § 1.16.010: an infraction runs up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second within a year and $500 for a third, with a fourth chargeable as a misdemeanor. Vehicles blocking a red zone or any other posted curb are also subject to towing under state Vehicle Code § 22651 at the direction of the Gardena Police Department.
