Inglewood, CA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Inglewood Municipal Code § 3-44 puts curb-color authority exclusively in the hands of the Public Works Director: no person or business may install, remove, or alter any curb marking on a public street or alley without the Director's prior authorization. The section then fixes what each authorized color legally means. Red bars stopping, standing, or parking at any time, except that a bus may stop in a red zone signed or marked as a bus zone. Yellow bars stopping, standing, or parking between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. any day except Sunday for anything other than loading or unloading, capping passenger loading at three minutes and material loading at twenty minutes, with loading zones stenciled "LOADING ONLY" in black letters at least three inches tall. White limits the curb to passenger loading of three minutes or less during the same window, except the restriction runs around the clock in front of a hotel or whenever a church, theater, auditorium, or other assembly place is open. Green caps standing or parking at twenty minutes between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. except Sunday. A yellow curb stenciled "Taxi Stand" reserves the space for taxis. Blue bars stopping, standing, or parking at any time except for a vehicle displaying a disabled-person or disabled-veteran placard or plate under Vehicle Code §§ 22511.5 or 9105.

These color meanings work together with § 3-41, which separately makes it unlawful for a driver to stop, stand, or park where a painted curb prohibits or limits it; that parking-side violation, unlike unauthorized painting itself, is listed as an infraction in § 1-18.1(a) and can draw a civil penalty under the City's Schedule of Parking Penalties per § 1-18.1(b) and Vehicle Code §§ 40200-40273. Because § 3-44 itself isn't on that infraction list, a private party who paints or alters a curb marking without City authorization is instead chargeable with a misdemeanor under the Code's default penalty in § 1-18.
