Gardena Municipal Code Chapter 10.28 makes it unlawful to leave a vehicle parked on a street or alley more than 72 consecutive hours, and authorizes police to remove such vehicles under California Vehicle Code Sections 22651(k) and 22500.
GMC Chapter 10.28 provides that no person in control of a vehicle may park it on any street or alley for more than 72 consecutive hours. When a vehicle is left standing beyond that period, a police officer authorized by the chief of police may remove it subject to the requirements of Vehicle Code Section 22651(k) and Section 22500. Beyond the local rule, Gardena relies on the state abandoned-vehicle framework: Vehicle Code Section 22523 prohibits abandoning a vehicle on any highway or public or private property, and Section 22651 lists the conditions for removal and impound. Residents can report an apparently abandoned or long-parked vehicle to the Gardena Police Department for investigation and possible tow.
A vehicle left over 72 hours or abandoned may be towed and impounded; abandonment under Vehicle Code 22523 carries administrative penalties and tow costs.
