Gardena, CA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Chapter 10.28's general parking rules go beyond time limits to control how and where a vehicle sits on a Gardena street. Section 10.28.030 requires 'the driver of a vehicle emerging from an alley, driveway or building' to 'stop such vehicle immediately prior to driving onto a sidewalk or into the sidewalk area extending across any alleyway,' protecting pedestrians from vehicles pulling blind out of driveways and alleys. Section 10.28.070 sets the default parking position: a vehicle must be parked parallel to the roadway edge or curb, pointed in the direction of traffic flow, with its right-side wheels within eighteen inches of the curb.

Two exceptions apply: on streets the traffic authority has marked for angle parking, vehicles park at the marked angle instead under § 10.28.080, and on a one-way roadway, a vehicle may park with its left-side wheels within eighteen inches of the left curb under subsection B, though that exception does not apply on a divided street. Motorcycles and bicycles need only one wheel touching the curb. Section 10.28.040 separately bars parking on any sidewalk, parkway, or median, and § 10.28.060 bars parking a vehicle in the public right-of-way for the principal purpose of displaying it for sale or of washing, greasing, or repairing it, except for emergency repairs.

Because Chapter 10.28 is a traffic-code chapter, violations of these positioning rules are infractions under § 1.16.010(G), with the parking-specific fine amount left to a council resolution under § 1.16.010(I) rather than printed in the ordinance itself.
