Compton Street Parking Limits Rules (2026): What You Need to Know

The City of Compton enforces on-street parking regulations under Article VII, Division 2 of the Municipal Code, as well as the California Vehicle Code. All vehicles parked on public streets must be moved at least once every 72 hours. Vehicles that remain stationary beyond this period may be cited and towed as abandoned vehicles under California Vehicle Code Section 22669.

Street sweeping is a major component of Compton's parking enforcement program. The city posts signs on affected streets indicating the specific days and times when parking is prohibited for street sweeping. Vehicles parked in violation of posted street sweeping signs are subject to parking citations. Residents should check posted signs on their block carefully, as schedules vary by neighborhood.

Standard California Vehicle Code parking prohibitions also apply throughout Compton. Parking is prohibited within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, in red-curb zones, on sidewalks, in crosswalks, within intersections, and in any manner that blocks a driveway. Double parking on city streets is prohibited at all times. Vehicles with expired registration tags or that are visibly inoperable may be cited and removed from public streets.

Compton Code Enforcement and the LA County Sheriff's Department (which provides law enforcement for the city) both enforce parking regulations. Residents can report abandoned vehicles and parking violations to the city's Code Enforcement Division.
