Compton Commercial Vehicle Restrictions Rules (2026): What You Need to Know

The City of Compton restricts the parking and operation of commercial vehicles in residential neighborhoods. Under the city's traffic and zoning regulations, commercial vehicles including semi-trucks, box trucks, flatbed trailers, heavy equipment, and vehicles over 10,000 lbs gross vehicle weight may not be parked overnight on residential streets or stored on residential properties. These restrictions are intended to preserve the residential character of neighborhoods and reduce noise, pollution, and road damage from heavy vehicles.

Compton designates specific truck routes for heavy commercial vehicle traffic, including major corridors such as Compton Boulevard, Rosecrans Avenue, Alameda Street, and Long Beach Boulevard. Commercial vehicles exceeding the weight limit must use these designated routes and may not travel through or park in residential neighborhoods except for active deliveries or service calls.

The prohibition extends to commercial trailers, construction equipment, and vehicles with prominent commercial signage when parked in residential areas. Small commercial vans and pickup trucks used for personal transportation that do not exceed the weight limit are generally permitted, though they may not be used for commercial storage or operations while parked in a residential zone.

Enforcement is handled by both the LA County Sheriff's Department (which provides police services to Compton) and the city's Code Enforcement Division. Complaints about illegally parked commercial vehicles can be reported to either agency.
