Lancaster, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Two overlapping thresholds control commercial-vehicle parking in Lancaster's residential zones. Section 10.04.200 bars parking any commercial vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of ten thousand pounds or more on a residential highway or alley at any time. Section 10.04.210 separately bars parking a commercial vehicle weighing more than six thousand pounds unladen on a residential highway or alley between two a.m. and six a.m., a narrower nighttime rule that catches lighter work trucks the heavier daytime ban does not reach. Both sections define "residential district" as any residential zone under Title 17 of the code, covering the city's R, MHP, MDR, and HDR zoning categories.

Each section carries the same five exceptions: necessary loading and unloading; performing a service activity on the adjacent lot or parcel; a lawful commercial use on the adjacent lot; construction of buildings or structures on the adjacent lot; and, for Section 10.04.200, construction or maintenance of a street, alley, parkway, or highway, or, for Section 10.04.210, construction or maintenance of a highway or alley. These sections sit alongside Section 10.04.050's separate two-hour and four-hour limits on parking trucks with an unladen weight of eight thousand pounds or more in residential and commercial zones without a police-issued permit, and alongside Section 10.04.055's flat, all-hours ban on oversized vehicles, twenty-two feet or longer or seven feet or wider or taller, on any public street, alley, or right-of-way.

A vehicle that clears the weight thresholds in Sections 10.04.200 and 10.04.210 can still be prohibited under Section 10.04.055 if its dimensions make it "oversized."
