Lakewood, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

1(J) permits two categories of licensed, operable commercial vehicles to park off-street on single-family residential property: motorized commercial vehicles with a curb weight, excluding passengers or loads, of 6,000 pounds or less, and trailers with a curb weight up to 2,500 pounds and a length up to 20 feet. The vehicle must be registered to the property or associated through employment with someone who lives there; anything heavier cannot be stored off-street on a residential lot under this section at all. Subsection L lets a resident apply for a permit to park a vehicle somewhere this section would otherwise forbid, under criteria the City Council sets.

On the street, Section 3264 bans operating, driving, parking, or placing any commercial vehicle over 6,000 pounds gross weight on any street north of Carson Street, with exceptions for vehicles actually picking up or delivering to an address on that street. 2 designates through truck routes, including Carson Street, Cherry Avenue, Lakewood Boulevard, Pioneer Boulevard, South Street, Bellflower Boulevard, and Woodruff Avenue, where the weight restriction does not apply. Lakewood is the original 1954 contract city and has no police department of its own; the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department polices the city under a services contract and issues the parking citations that enforce both sections.
