Mecklenburg County Public Health inspects Charlotte restaurants under NC sanitation rules and issues an A, B, or C placard that must be posted conspicuously near the entrance for customer view.
Restaurants, food trucks, and other food service establishments in Charlotte are inspected by Mecklenburg County Environmental Health under the NC Food Code (15A NCAC 18A .2600). Each inspection produces a numerical score: 90 or above earns Grade A, 80 to 89.5 is Grade B, and 70 to 79.5 is Grade C. The placard must be displayed where customers can see it on entry. Inspections occur one to four times yearly based on risk category. Inspection reports are public and posted on the Mecklenburg County website with violation details.
Failing to display the current grade card, scoring below 70, or operating without a permit can trigger immediate suspension of operations until corrective action is verified.
