Public Health Seattle and King County posts color-coded inspection placards at restaurants countywide. Cards rate facilities Excellent, Good, OK, or Needs to Improve based on red and blue critical violation points scored over four prior inspections.
Public Health Seattle and King County (PHSKC) inspects every permitted food establishment at least once per year, more often for higher-risk operations. Each inspection scores red critical points for hazards likely to cause foodborne illness and blue points for less severe issues. The rolling four-inspection average converts to one of four ratings posted near the entrance. Customers can also look up scores on the PHSKC food safety website. Repeat critical violations trigger reinspection fees, manager training, or permit suspension until corrected.
Failing to display the current color placard, removing or altering the card, or operating after a closure order can lead to fines, reinspection fees, and permit suspension by Public Health.
