Skokie's 2026 pilot ordinance sets a minimum five-night stay for every booking and caps operators at 18 total bookings over the 18-month pilot period. Stays of fewer than five nights or exceeding the booking cap are prohibited.
Under the pilot program, every STR booking must be at least five consecutive nights long; rentals of one to four nights are prohibited. In addition, each licensed operator is limited to a maximum of 18 total bookings across the 18-month pilot (May 1, 2026 through October 31, 2027). The five-night minimum is intended to shift Skokie's STR market toward longer stays rather than weekend party rentals, and the 18-booking cap limits the commercial intensity of each property. Violations are tracked through required booking records, which operators must submit to the Village on request. The Village may audit booking logs during license renewal.
Bookings under five nights or exceeding the 18-booking cap violate the pilot ordinance. Fines run up to $1,500 per offense and repeat violations can trigger license revocation.
