Mahwah, NJ Short-Term Rentals: Parking Rules (2026)

Mahwah Code Section 7-3.3 (Chapter 7, Traffic) bans the parking of vehicles along any roadway between midnight and 6:00 a.m. from November 15 through April 15 each year. The rule exists to keep streets clear for snow plowing and applies countywide-style across all Mahwah residential streets, regardless of weather on a given night. Mahwah Police may issue warnings first, but as soon as plowing operations begin, summonses are issued. Outside the November 15 to April 15 window, on-street overnight parking is generally allowed unless a specific street has its own posted restriction in the Chapter 7 traffic schedules. Mahwah also requires a parking permit to use any municipal lot overnight (information available from the Police Traffic Safety Bureau, 201-529-1000 ext. 226). For off-street parking, residential dwellings must comply with Chapter 24 (Zoning) minimums, typically two off-street spaces per single-family dwelling, located on a paved driveway and not in a required front-yard setback beyond approved driveway widths. The Township has not adopted any short-term-rental-specific parking cap; the standard residential rules apply. RVs, boats, and trailers parked on a residential lot are governed by the property maintenance and zoning provisions in Chapters 10 and 24.
