Most Oakland County municipalities require STR guest parking to fit entirely on-site or in lawful on-street spaces, with no blocking of alleys, fire lanes, or driveways. Ferndale Code §7-157 directly states STR parking 'shall not restrict access by emergency vehicles or the traveling public and shall not impede any ingress or egress on any street, alley or highway,' and prohibits recreational vehicles, RVs, and tents at the STR.
Oakland County STR ordinances generally require operators to disclose the number of on-site parking spaces on the license application and to limit guest vehicles to that number. Many Oakland cities (Royal Oak, Birmingham, Berkley, Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge) also enforce overnight on-street parking bans (typically 2 a.m. – 6 a.m.) year-round or during winter snow-emergency periods, which can ticket guest vehicles. RVs and trailers are generally barred from STR sites under both zoning and STR ordinances. In townships with private roads (Bloomfield Township, West Bloomfield), STR parking that blocks shared drives can trigger zoning violations under Ord. 653 and similar.
Parking violations are municipal civil infractions: Ferndale and Royal Oak commonly assess $30–$50 per ticket for overnight or obstruction violations. Repeated STR parking complaints can result in STR license discipline (warning → suspension → revocation) under Ferndale §7-160 and Hazel Park HPMC Ch. 5.44.
