Mecklenburg County does not operate an STR registration program. Under NCGS 160D-1207 the county may not require rental registration absent property-specific violations. Tax account registration with the Mecklenburg Tax Collector is the only mandatory filing.
Operators create a Room Occupancy Tax account online at mecknc.gov, file monthly returns, and attach proof of platform collection where applicable. No zoning permit fee, no annual renewal, and no mandatory inspection absent a cited violation. The towns of Davidson and Cornelius have adopted their own STR registration schemes under home rule charters; these do not apply to county-jurisdiction parcels.
