Garage sale signs in Camarillo are regulated under CMC Title 17 (Signs). Signs may be placed on private property with the owner's permission but are prohibited in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, traffic signs, and city property. Signs must be removed promptly after the sale ends.
CMC Title 17 regulates temporary signs including garage sale signs. Signs advertising garage sales may be placed on the seller's property and on other private property with the owner's consent. Signs are prohibited on utility poles, traffic signs, streetlights, fire hydrants, trees in the public right-of-way, medians, and any other public property. Signs must not obstruct driver visibility or create safety hazards. Signs should include the address of the sale and the dates. Signs must be removed within 24 hours after the sale concludes. The number and size of signs may be limited by the sign code. In HOA communities, CC&Rs may have additional restrictions on sign placement, including requirements to use community-approved sign styles or placing signs only in designated areas. Some HOAs provide community garage sale events with coordinated signage.
Signs in the public right-of-way may be removed by the city. Failure to remove signs after the sale may result in citations. HOA sign violations result in association fines. Contact Community Development at (805) 388-5360 for sign regulations.
