080(C)(1) exempts garage sales from the Temporary Use Permit requirement, provided the sales do not occur more than one three-day event per 180-day period; more frequent sales are treated as a commercial retail business operating in a residential zone, which is prohibited. That exemption covers the sale event itself, not the signage advertising it. 070(C) that apply to all temporary signs regardless of type. Those standards cap freestanding sign height at six feet above grade, or the height of the structure the sign is mounted on if attached, and bar attaching a sign to another sign or to landscaping materials.

Signs cannot be posted, affixed or placed on the public right-of-way, public easements, utility poles, fences, trees, shrubs, railroad crossings or lighting systems. Every supporting structure erected to hold a temporary sign must be completely removed once the sign is removed, and the sign itself must be built to withstand wind and rain. Because a garage sale is capped at a three-day event, a sign advertising it has no independent basis to remain posted once the sale ends; leaving it up is an unauthorized temporary sign subject to the same removal and abatement rules that apply to any other unattended temporary sign in the city.
