Metro does not require permits for residential holiday displays. Decorations must not obstruct sight triangles, sidewalks, or create fire hazards. HOA and historic overlay (Germantown, Edgefield, etc.) may add restrictions.
Metro Nashville has no ordinance directly regulating residential holiday decorations. Standard requirements apply: no obstruction of Metro sidewalks, driveways, or corner sight triangles; outdoor electrical equipment must be rated for wet locations per NEC; inflatables must be secured. Displays that draw traffic causing parking congestion may trigger complaints. Historic overlay zones (including Germantown, Edgefield, Rutledge Hill, Second Avenue, Lockeland Springs) require decorations not be permanently affixed or damage historic fabric but do not require permits. HOA communities in Brentwood-adjacent Davidson neighborhoods and condos in Gulch/SoBro may have CC&R duration limits. Christmas tree disposal handled through Metro Public Works free curbside collection in early January.
Sidewalk/ROW obstruction: Metro Codes warning. Electrical fire hazard: Nashville Fire Marshal removal order. Historic overlay damage: Metro Historical Commission citation. HOA duration violations: association fines per CC&Rs.
