Charlotte Code Β§6-163 prohibits door-to-door solicitors from approaching any residence displaying a No Soliciting sign. Violation is a civil penalty of $100 and can result in permit revocation for repeat offenses.
Charlotte's Peddler/Solicitor Ordinance (Code Β§6-163) makes it unlawful for any commercial solicitor to enter upon any residence posted with a No Soliciting or No Trespass notice at or near the main entry. The sign must be at least 3x3 inches and legible from the approach. Violators are subject to civil penalties and possible revocation of their city solicitor permit. Religious and political canvassers are subject to the same No Soliciting rule in most interpretations despite First Amendment exemptions from permit requirements. Mecklenburg County unincorporated areas rely on N.C.G.S. Β§14-159.13 criminal trespass after notice.
First violation: $100 civil penalty. Second within 12 months: $250 and solicitor permit suspension. Third: permit revocation and Class 3 misdemeanor.
