Irvine, CA Special Events & Permits: Block Party Permits (2026)

Under Irvine Municipal Code Title 2, Division 10, Chapter 8 (Special Events), any activity that may result in the closure of public streets or temporarily requires installation of materials or structures requires a special event permit. Block parties and neighborhood gatherings that close residential streets must apply through Facility Reservations at least 30 days prior to the event. The Irvine Police Department Public Safety unit evaluates each application for life safety and security concerns, including review of a safety plan, route plan, and communications plan. Events with amplified sound, food service, alcoholic beverages, or temporary structures require additional departmental approvals. Applicants may need to provide evidence of general liability insurance naming the City of Irvine as additional insured. The special event definition includes any activity inconsistent with the zone where it is held or that exceeds permitted occupancy levels.
