Denver's 2021 Building Code (Appendix T β International Swimming Pool and Spa Code) requires pool barriers to be a minimum of 60 inches (5 feet) high on the exterior-facing side. Barriers must completely surround the pool area. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latches at a minimum 54 inches above grade. Gates must open away from the pool. Vertical picket spacing may not exceed 4 inches. Horizontal members that could serve as footholds must be on the pool side only. Construction fencing (minimum 4 feet) must surround the site from excavation through completion of the permanent barrier.
Pool fencing violations halt certificate of occupancy. Non-compliant barriers require correction before pool can be filled.
