Every residential pool in Forsyth County must be enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches high. Georgia's State Minimum Standard Swimming Pool and Spa Code, Section 305.2.1, sets that height, enforced through the county building permit.
Forsyth County enforces the Georgia State Minimum Standard Swimming Pool and Spa Code, the state's adopted 2018 ISPSC. Section 305.2.1 requires the top of the barrier to stand at least 48 inches above grade on the side facing away from the pool, around the entire perimeter. The gap beneath the barrier cannot exceed two inches, and no opening may pass a 4-inch sphere. Pedestrian gates must be self-closing and self-latching. The barrier is checked before the pool is filled, and no swimming pool passes final inspection without it.
A pool filled without a compliant 48-inch barrier fails inspection and draws a stop-use order and penalties until the enclosure is built. A gap wider than four inches is a cited defect.
