Swimming pools must be enclosed by a fence or barrier at least 5 feet high (typically 6 feet is recommended and required by current IBC). Gates must be self-closing and self-latching, with the latch on the pool side. Openings in the fence cannot permit passage of a 4-inch sphere (to prevent young children from squeezing through).
