Per NC State Residential Code Appendix G (as amended), pool barriers must be 48 inches minimum height, have no gaps exceeding 4 inches, and gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latch release on pool side 3 inches below top of gate or 54 inches above ground on outside. Chain-link mesh openings limited to 1.75 inches. Power safety covers meeting ASTM F1346 may substitute for barrier in some configurations. House wall may serve as part of barrier if doors leading to pool area have alarms or self-closing devices.
