NY State requires minimum 48-inch barrier around all residential pools with self-closing, self-latching gates opening outward. Gate latch must be at least 54 inches above ground. Applies to in-ground and above-ground pools over 24 inches.
Appendix G AG105 sets barrier specs: maximum 4-inch gap under barrier, no horizontal members that could be used as a ladder within lower 45 inches, slats no more than 1.75 inches apart. Above-ground pools may use pool walls as barrier if ladder is removable or lockable. Contact Rensselaer County at (518) 270-2900 for enforcement.
