Shenandoah's adoption of the 2021 ISPSC provides comprehensive pool safety standards including: anti-entrapment drain covers (Virginia Graeme Baker Act); electrical bonding and grounding per the National Electrical Code; barrier requirements; water sanitation systems; and energy efficiency requirements for heaters and pumps. The 2021 IBC and IRC also apply for structural and habitability elements of pool enclosures and equipment rooms. All safety systems are inspected before pools receive a certificate of occupancy. Annual maintenance responsibility falls on the property owner.
