Suffolk County has no bin rules. Boston Municipal Code §7-4 (Trash) sets specific placement rules: bins or bags placed curbside no earlier than 5 PM the night before pickup and no later than 5:00 AM pickup-day morning; bins removed from the curb within 24 hours of collection; between pickups, bins stored in a side yard, driveway, or rear yard (not in front). Bags are limited to 40 pounds (32-gallon maximum size). Boston Inspectional Services Code Enforcement issues blight citations for bins left out more than 24 hours after pickup. Multi-unit properties are required to provide adequate enclosed bin storage.
