Recology Del Norte offers residential bulky-item pickup: 2 complimentary curbside collections per year (after 90 days of service), with additional pickups for a fee. Items go to the curb by 6 a.m. Residents may also self-haul large items to the county transfer station.
For large items that do not fit in regular carts, Recology Del Norte provides a scheduled curbside bulky-item pickup service rather than requiring every resident to haul everything to the landfill. Residential and multi-family customers receive 2 complimentary curbside pickups per year at no cost after 90 days of service; additional collections beyond that allotment are available for a fee, and the free pickups are non-transferable from year to year. To schedule, residents contact the Recology Del Norte office, and items must be placed near the curb or roadside by 6 a.m. on the pickup day. Accepted bulky goods include couches, mattresses, washers, dryers, refrigerators, water heaters, holiday trees, and up to 1.5 yards of carpet; electronics such as computers, monitors, and small TVs are accepted in a single box weighing under 100 pounds, along with up to 9 to 32-gallon trash bags per pickup. The service does not accept liquids, dirt, rock, concrete or asphalt, hazardous or infectious waste, ashes, or materials exceeding 6 feet in length. Recology encourages donating usable items to local nonprofits before scheduling removal. Residents can also self-haul bulky items, appliances, and other waste to the Del Norte County transfer station operated through the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority. Household hazardous waste is handled through separate Authority and Recology programs, not bulky-item pickup.
Bulky-item service is delivered by Recology under the DNSWMA franchise; placing prohibited materials (hazardous waste, concrete, oversized items) out for pickup is not accepted. Improper dumping of bulky items is addressed as illegal dumping/nuisance by the county and Authority.
