Joliet contracts with Waste Management for residential curbside garbage, recycling, and seasonal yard waste collection. All waste containers must be placed at the curb no later than 7:00 AM on collection day. Pickup is delayed by one day following major holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas). Yard waste collection runs from approximately March through early December.
The City of Joliet provides residential waste services through a contract with Waste Management, governed by Chapter 14 of the Municipal Code. Garbage and recycling are collected weekly on the same designated day. All containers must be at the curb by 7:00 AM on collection day and should be removed by the end of the collection day. Yard waste collection begins in March and runs through early December, also on the same day as garbage and recycling. When a collection day falls on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day, pickup is delayed by one day for the remainder of that week. Residents use city-provided carts for garbage and recycling. Yard waste must be in kraft paper bags or in clearly marked yard waste containers. Waste Management can be contacted at 815-280-7854 for service questions.
Placing waste at the curb too early or failing to remove containers after collection may result in code enforcement warnings or citations. Contaminated recycling loads may be rejected.
