Colorado's groundbreaking Producer Responsibility Program (HB 22-1355), signed into law in 2022, will require producers to fund statewide universal recycling starting 2026 and expanded in 2027. The program is administered by Circular Action Alliance. In the interim, Aurora, Centennial, Littleton, and Englewood provide curbside single-stream recycling through licensed haulers. Accepted materials: newspaper, office paper, cardboard (flattened), glass bottles/jars, aluminum cans, steel/tin cans, and plastic bottles #1 and #2 (some haulers accept #5). Rejected contaminants: plastic bags (tangle equipment), Styrofoam, food-contaminated containers, electronics, and yard waste. Aurora City Code ยง138-103 and Centennial Waste Contract require residential recycling access. Multi-family properties with 8+ units in Aurora must provide recycling per City Code ยง138-103. Cherry Creek State Park and surrounding areas have additional waste restrictions to protect the reservoir watershed. Composting programs offered separately by some haulers (Compost Colorado, A1 Organics).
