Aurora requires all licensed residential haulers to offer curbside single-stream recycling; participation is not yet mandatory for residents but is strongly encouraged.
Aurora's 2020 Solid Waste Management Plan and subsequent ordinance require all licensed residential trash haulers to offer embedded single-stream recycling service to all customers. Haulers must provide a 65 or 95 gallon recycling cart collected at least every other week. Accepted materials include paper, cardboard, plastics #1 and #2, aluminum, and steel cans. Glass is accepted curbside by most haulers, or at drop-off centers. The state's Producer Responsibility law (HB 22-1355) will expand free recycling access statewide starting 2026-2027. Composting service is available from many haulers at additional cost. Multi-family properties must provide recycling starting with new construction.
Specific penalty amounts for this ordinance are not published in a publicly accessible fine schedule. Contact Aurora code enforcement directly for current fines, enforcement procedures, and hearing options.
