Largo requires a tree removal permit for any tree four inches or more in diameter and palm trees over 4.5 feet tall, with applications reviewed under Chapter 10 of the Comprehensive Development Code.
Under Chapter 10 (Landscape Standards) of Largo's Comprehensive Development Code, a tree removal permit is required for all trees measuring four inches or greater in diameter at breast height and for palm trees over 4.5 feet tall. Applications identify the tree species, size, and location on the property. Multifamily and commercial properties also follow site-specific landscape and Development Order requirements. Florida Statute 163.045 separately allows a homeowner to skip the permit when an ISA-certified arborist or licensed landscape architect documents that the tree poses an unacceptable risk; that documentation must be retained. Dead, diseased, and invasive trees are commonly exempted.
Removing a regulated tree without a permit can trigger code citations, mandatory replacement at city-approved sizes, and per-tree fines determined by the special magistrate.
