Richardson's tree ordinance (Ch. 22.5) requires 1:1 caliper inch replacement for protected trees and 2:1 for specimen trees. Monetary mitigation may be available. Unprotected (invasive) species are exempt from replacement requirements.
Chapter 22.5 establishes tree replacement requirements for permitted removals. Protected trees (6-24 caliper inches) require replacement at a 1:1 ratio of caliper inches removed to caliper inches planted. Specimen trees (24+ caliper inches) require a 2:1 replacement ratio. Replacement trees must be from the city's approved species list. Monetary mitigation may be available as an alternative to physical tree planting when site conditions do not support full replacement. The funds are used by the city for tree planting in public areas. Trees classified as unprotected species (invasive) are exempt from replacement requirements regardless of size.
Failure to fulfill replacement mitigation after permitted removal may result in penalties and additional requirements.
