A carport is a detached accessory building in Lincoln. In the side yard it may sit no closer than two feet to the side lot line, only if it is at least sixty feet from the front lot line, and it may not exceed fifteen feet in height.
Lincoln Municipal Code Section 27.72.120 treats a carport as an accessory building. If located at least sixty feet from the front lot line, it may extend into the required side yard but no closer than two feet to the side lot line in the R-1 through R-8 and most commercial districts, and it may not exceed fifteen feet in height. A carport attached to, or within six feet of, the main house is treated as part of the main house and must meet the main building's setbacks. A carport taking access from an alley must sit at least ten feet from the alley line. Unincorporated acreages follow the Lancaster County Zoning Resolution.
A carport closer than two feet to a lot line, less than sixty feet from the front lot line, or over fifteen feet tall is a zoning violation; Lincoln Building and Safety may order relocation.
