Tiny home rules in Redondo Beach, CA — covering tiny houses on wheels (THOWs), park model RVs, and tiny home on foundation builds — determine where they are legal and how they get permitted.
Redondo Beach has no separate tiny-home ordinance. A permanent backyard tiny dwelling is allowed only as a permitted ADU under RBMC 10-2.1506. Living in a trailer, camper, RV, or movable tiny house on wheels is prohibited under RBMC 10-2.1708.
The city does not have a dedicated tiny-house ordinance. A foundation-built tiny dwelling can be permitted only if it qualifies as an accessory dwelling unit under RBMC 10-2.1506, meeting all ADU size, setback, and height standards. Movable tiny houses on wheels, recreational vehicles, campers, house trailers, and mobile homes may not be used for living or sleeping on a residential lot; RBMC 10-2.1708 prohibits occupancy of house trailers, mobile homes, campers, and boats and limits parking of such trailers in the front yard or on vacant lots to no more than 72 consecutive hours. A tiny home built on a permanent foundation must also meet California residential building code.
Living in an RV, trailer, or movable tiny house on a lot, or installing a tiny dwelling without ADU permits, violates RBMC 10-2.1708 and zoning rules; Code Enforcement may order removal and impose penalties.
