Bees are not addressed in the Ada County Animal Control Ordinance (Title 5, Ch. 7). Where and how many hives you may keep on unincorporated land is governed by the Ada County Zoning Code (Title 8) and any lot-size/setback standards it sets; agricultural and rural-residential zoning is generally permissive. At the state level, the Idaho apiary program (Idaho Code Title 22, Chapter 25) requires beekeepers with more than 50 colonies to register with the Idaho State Department of Agriculture and pay a registration fee and honey advertising assessment; hobbyists under 50 colonies are encouraged, not required, to register. Cities within Ada County may impose their own hive rules.
