Tualatin has no city ordinance restricting residential beekeeping; the city has been a designated Bee City USA Affiliate since 2019 and supports pollinators. Beekeepers must register colonies with the Oregon Department of Agriculture under ORS 602.
The Tualatin Municipal Code does not include a dedicated residential beekeeping ordinance, and TMC Chapter 6-15 covers domestic fowl rather than honeybees. In October 2019 the Tualatin City Council passed a resolution designating Tualatin as a Bee City USA Affiliate, pledging habitat conservation, native plantings, and pollinator education. Statewide rules apply: under Oregon Revised Statutes Chapter 602, anyone who owns or possesses bees in Oregon must register colonies with the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) and is subject to ODA apiary inspection. Beekeepers should follow OSU Extension's Residential Beekeeping best-practice guidelines (EM 9186) for hive placement, on-site water, and neighbor courtesy, and should still avoid creating a nuisance under TMC 6-04, which gives the city authority over animal-related nuisances.
There is no Tualatin permit or hive cap to violate. If a hive creates a documented nuisance, the city may act under TMC Chapter 6-04. Failure to register colonies with ODA under ORS 602 is a state-law violation.
