NYC Health Code 161.01 prohibits keeping wild or exotic animals including ferrets, all venomous reptiles, pythons over 6 feet, all crocodilians, non-human primates, large felids, canids (wolves, foxes, coyotes), bears, raccoons, skunks, bats, and most wild birds of prey. NY state Environmental Conservation Law 11-0512 additionally regulates wild animal possession statewide. Small reptiles, tropical fish, parakeets, rabbits, and guinea pigs are permitted.
Illegal exotic: 500-2,000 per animal plus seizure and placement fees.
