East Baton Rouge Parish follows Louisiana law, which bans private possession of big exotic cats (lions, tigers), non-human primates, bears, and other dangerous wild quadrupeds. Importing, possessing, purchasing, or selling these listed animals is unlawful except for grandfathered permits.
The parish does not authorize keeping dangerous wild animals; the governing rule is the Louisiana Administrative Code (LAC 76:V.115), adopted under the Wildlife and Fisheries Commission's authority. It makes it unlawful to import into, possess, purchase, or sell within Louisiana any listed live wild quadrupeds, big exotic cats (lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cougars, cheetahs), or non-human primates (chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, and other primates), by any means including the internet. Holders of valid pre-existing potentially-dangerous-wild-quadruped permits are grandfathered but may not acquire additional listed animals or breed them. The state cites public-safety, animal-welfare, and conservation concerns.
A violation is a class two violation under Title 56 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes; on conviction, licenses may be revoked and the animals seized in connection with the violation are forfeited.
