The chapter governs the keeping of livestock in addition to dogs. While the running-at-large rule is the most-enforced provision, Chapter 280 zoning further restricts where livestock can be kept - typically only in lower-density residence districts and as accessory uses on lots meeting minimum acreage. Keeping of chickens for personal use is permitted with a permit from the Board of Zoning Appeals; commercial fowl operations are not allowed in residential zones. The Animal Control Officer may impound any livestock found at large.
Allowing livestock at large is enforceable under § 1-15 (up to $1,000 / 15 days per day), plus impoundment fees and chargeback for any property damage.
