Guilford County Code Chapter 5 has no blanket ban on feeding wildlife, but feeding that attracts nuisance animals or creates unsanitary conditions can be abated. State wildlife rules govern hunting, baiting and protected species.
There is no specific county ordinance prohibiting the feeding of birds, deer or other wildlife in unincorporated Guilford County. Feeding that draws rodents, causes a nuisance, or creates an unsanitary condition can be addressed under the county nuisance ordinance, and feeding that habituates or endangers people may draw Animal Services involvement. Wildlife itself is regulated by the state: the NC Wildlife Resources Commission governs feeding/baiting of game, protected species and rabies-vector animals. During rabies outbreaks the county advises against feeding strays or wildlife. Do not feed injured or aggressive wild animals; report them to Animal Services or the state.
No stand-alone feeding fine exists; feeding that creates a documented nuisance or health hazard can be abated under the nuisance ordinance, and violations of state wildlife rules carry state penalties.
