Greensboro has no standalone wildlife feeding ban. Guilford County Sec. 5-10 covers nuisances from feeding that creates safety or sanitation issues. NC wildlife laws apply.
Greensboro does not have a specific ordinance prohibiting the feeding of wildlife. However, Guilford County Code Chapter 5, Section 5-10, declares a public nuisance when the actions of an animal disturb the rights, threaten the safety, or damage property of the general public. Feeding wildlife in ways that attract large concentrations of animals creating sanitation, health, or safety hazards may be addressed under this nuisance provision. Feeding deer is regulated by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission under certain conditions, particularly during hunting seasons. Feeding bears is strongly discouraged by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission as it habituates bears to human food sources. Greensboro parks may have posted rules about feeding waterfowl and other wildlife. The NC Department of Health and Human Services also addresses rabies vector species (raccoons, foxes, skunks, bats) and discourages feeding these animals. Contact Guilford County Animal Control for wildlife nuisance complaints.
Wildlife feeding creating a public nuisance may be enforced under Sec. 5-10. State wildlife violations enforced by NC Wildlife officers.
